Tamerton Foliet, Deanery of Tamerton

Chanter 225B, 463-464

  1. Population and dissenters: We have about ninety Families in our parish: we have no Dissenters nor meeting House.

  2. Public or charity schools: Here is a charity schooll, endowed with twenty pounds an year; and twenty Boys cloathed: endowed with twenty pounds per annum for ever by Mrs Mary Dean: The Schoollmaster is lately settled here, so that I can say but little of him.

  3. Alms-house, hospital or charitable endowment: Here are alms Houses in my parish: here are two Houses left us for repairing the Church: the Church-Wardens have the direction of them: I know of no abuse committed in the management of them:

  4. Residence upon cure: I do not reside in my vicarage House; but in the same parish: The reason is, having not glebe sufficient for my family viz: only one acre & half of arable Land: which will not keep an horse for sending to markett for my Family necessaries: so that I was obliged to purchase a lease Hold Tenement with a dwelling House in the same parish for the convenience & Benefit of my wife & children; and from thence, being but two miles distant from my church, I duly attend all the Services of it to the satisfaction of all my parishioners: my vicarage House I keep in good repair: and upon these considerations I most humbly beg the favour of your Lordships Indulgence:

  5. Curate: I have no curate here.

  6. Divine service at other churches: No.

  7. Frequency of divine service: Twice every Lord's Day with a Sermon in the morning and afternoon & prayers <on> all Holy Days.

  8. Frequency of communion: Once every month.

  9. Number of communicants: There are about one hundred: and about sixty communicated last Easter.

  10. Catechising of children: They are Catechized every Sunday in Lent.

  11. Chapels or chapels in ruins: Here is no chapel in my parish: except a private one belonging to James Heywood Esquire a minor which hath no Divine Service performed in it att present:
